Appreciating the simple things - like a hot shower
I wondered what it would be like, giving Kajal her first shower or bath. Would it be a struggle, a fight, a mess? What I never could have imagined was that she would see the shower and the running water and jump in with a shout of laughter like I've never heard! She grabbed the soap from my hand and started shampooing and washing herself laughing with joy for the next 45 minutes at least! If she had her way she would shower 3 times a day for an hour at a time. We're currently staying at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi... a five star hotel on a private executive floor... the bathrooms are marble with glass showers facing a full glass mirror. She's in heaven! She lathers up and sings and laughs and dances while watching herself in the mirror... never have you seen such complete joy. The room is beautiful... but the reality hits home when we pull the shades to this luxurious room and we see the children playing in the streets, living in huts made of cardboard and plastic lining the street across from this glorious hotel. One of the harshest moments of this trip was sitting in the Mercedes the hotel sent for us, to drive us from the airport. Kajal was sitting between myself and Mom when we stopped at a light and a little girl about Kajals size, Kajal's age came up to our window begging for food or money. She gazed at us through the locked windows... gazing in wonder at Kajal and us. Kajal stared back, no reaction, just held my hand tight. She knows that girl... she knows her too well

I just came across this blog and started reading it, as my husband and I would like to adopt a girl from India. Your daughter is so beautiful and I'm very happy for you!

I hope you two don't give up on your dream... these children are so precious and each one deserves a loving home. The road to and from India was not an easy one, international adoption can be as challenging an endeavor as they come, but as you've read here... the most rewarding gift of love awaits...

Wow!, this was a real quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article... but what can I say... I keep putting it off and never seem to get something done.

Thank you so much... writing is hard, as you can see from my lack of recent posts, sometimes life just seems to get in the way. My only advice to you is find a quiet space and then just write. Write from the heart, write what comes easily to you and watch the magic happen. You may surprise yourself.
