Happy New You
New Years Eve... language barriers never seem quite so hard as moments when your child wakes in total terror to the sound of explosions, cries out and asks 'polizzia? Polizzia?' How do you explain fireworks and New Years... I tried to tell her that people were celebrating but all she could hear was the sound of their screams. The fireworks were over head and went on for 20 minutes. I rocked her and hugged her... told her she was safe and the only police outside were there to keep us safe, good police. The fear was palpable... and yet the next day when she heard everyone wishing her a happy New Year she heard what she heard, those precious little ears of her and would respond very simply... Happy New You too. For the week that followed, every person she saw... she wished a Happy New You, to.
